August 24, 2011 with John Nelson [Cassette Archives]

John Nelson, the songwriter behind Detroit indie rock bands such as New Grenada, Cloud Car, Destroy This Place, and Copper Thieves, was my guest DJ and also played a live set with his new band to celebrate the release of his first solo album, which I had helped record.

John didn’t join Dave behind the turntables until after his band performed. All the songs until John started co-DJing are either written and/or produced by Leiber and Stoller in honor of Jerry Leiber’s death on August 22, 2011.
