From May 2011 to January 2016, David Lawson was the host of Tuesday in the Forest, an all-vinyl DJ night at the Loving Touch in Ferndale. Each week he shared the night with a different guest, and each week Dave let the guest define the direction of the night. As a result, the music could be deep soul, new wave, honky tonk, moonwalks down memory lane, gritty garage, smooth grooves, indie rock, club bumpers, foreign language freakouts or WTF. Ever week, Dave and his guest traded song-for-song all night.
The night begin in May of 2009 by Richie Wohlfeil and Carey Gustafson. After hosting the night for nearly five years, Mathias Matthew has now taken the reins into the new era – but that is not included on this website. You’d probably like Matthew’s night – and you can “like” it.
From 2011 to 2016, there were nearly 200 nights of 5-hour all-vinyl mixes recorded live by Dave and a guest. Almost all of these nights were recorded and are available on this site for you to enjoy – including many hard-to-find treasures and memorable interludes. There were also occasional live performances, also recorded for the archives.
Dave still plays records regularly around the Detroit area at special events, weddings and a monthly R&B/soul night at Tom’s Tavern. You can follow his continuing adventures at www.djdavelawson.com.
