For the first half of the night I was joined by Jon Moshier, host of Modern Music on WDET. We played an eclectic mix of children records, classic country, instrumentals and 50s pop tunes. Then in the second half of the night, Jon passed the candle to Mike Trombley, host of the long running Macho City dance night. Mike and I played jump blues, soul and disco yuletide tunes. What resulted is a wide ranging mix covering the fantastic holiday tunes not so well known and the bizarre oddities that only the Christmas season could inspire. Enjoy, and have a Merry Christmas!

[display_podcast]

Click for full playlist of Xmas in the Forest 2014

Xmas in the Forest – December 23, 2014
Dave Lawson (D), Jon Moshier (J) and Mike Trombley (M)

Fun Sounds of Christmas – A Shopping Trip (J)
The Staple Singers – Joy to the World (D)
Peppermint Kandy Kids – South Pole Calling North Pole (J)
The Roches – Sleigh Ride (D)
Rosemary Clooney – Suzi Snowflake (J)
Jimmy Boyd – Santa Got Stuck in the Chimney (D)
Ernest Tubb – I’m Trimming My Christmas Tree with Tear Drops (J)
Hank Thompson – I’m Gonna Wrap My Heart in Ribbons (D)
Lawrence Welk – I Wanna Do More than Whistle (J)
Dorothy Collins – Mister Santa (D)
Hi-Fi Organ Chimes – Sleight Ride (J)
Les Paul and Mary Ford – Jungle Bells (D)
Ed Norton (Art Carney) – Santa and the Doodle-Li-Boop (J)
Sheb Wooley – Santa and the Purple People Eater (D)
Man or Astroman – Frosty the Snowman (J)
The Ventures – Snow Flakes (D)
Chet Atkins – Jingle Bell Rock (J)
Lefty Frizzell – Mama (D)
Loretta Lynn – To Heck with Ole Santa Claus (J)
Bill Monroe – Christmas Tim’es A-Comin’ (D)
Johnny Cash – Blue Christmas (J)
Homer and Jethro and June Carter – Baby It’s Cold Outside (D)
Buck Owens – It’s Xmas Time for Everyone But Me (J)
The Davis Sisters – Christmas Boogie (D)
Sy Mann – Tijuana Xmas (J)
Santo and Johnny – Twistin’ Bells (D)
Ferrante and Teicher – Santa Claus Is Coming (J)
Big Tiny Little – Christmas Medley (D)
Ken Griffin – Up on the House Top (J)
Jimmy Smith – God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (D)
Ramsey Lewis Trio – 12 Days of Christmas (J)
The Harry Simeone Chorale – Pat-a-Pam (D)
Christmas at Home – Snow Flakes (J)
The Lennon Sisters – Merry, Merry Christmas (D)
Olga Guillot – Blanca Navidad (J)
Charlie Parker – White Christmas (D)
Kenny Burrell – The Little Drummer Boy (J)
B Bumble and the Singers – Nut Rocker (D)
Herb Alpert – My Favorite Things (J)
Tiwstin’ Kings – Xmas Twist (D)
Beach Boys – Santa’s Beard (J)
The Olympics – Dancin’ Holiday (D)
Monster Christmas Mash – It’s Christmas or Us (J)
Boris Pickett – Monster’s Holiday (D)
Dennis Day – May Santa Fill Our Hearts (J)
The Surfers – Jingle Bells (D)
Eddy Arnold – Will Santy Come to Shanty Town (J)
Homer and Jethro – The Night After Christmas (D)
Merle Haggard – Bobby Wants a Puppy for Christmas (J)
Brenda Lee – Christmas Will Be Just Another Lonely Day (D)
Luna – Egg Nog (J)
The Fountains of Wayne – Man in the Santa Suit (D)
The White Stripes – Candy Cane Children (J)
B.B.
